AKROBAK™

Some airlines have not utilized the many benefits of nylon carpet due to smoke and toxicity concerns. Over the past seven years Akro Fireguard has been developing the solution. AkroBak™ provides a revolutionary patented alternative for woven nylon airline carpet.

Mohawk is now offering a woven nylon carpet option that features AkroBak™. Bromine and antimony compounds, used as flame-retardants in some carpet backings do not meet Boeing and Airbus smoke and toxicity emit requirements. Both bromine and antimony compounds are environmentally suspect and their use maybe regulated in the future. AkroBak™ contains no harmful bromine or antimony compounds.

Carpet backed with AkroBak™ meets the following smoke and toxicity regulations:
• Airbus ABD 0031 (issue C)
• Boeing D 651377

All Mohawk carpet featuring AkroBak™ meet the stringent 12 second vertical burn (FAR 25.853b) requirements. Vertical burn tests results accompany every Akro/Mohawk order.

The vertical burn test is the only test currently necessary to install aircraft carpet. However, other than excellent vertical burn, smoke, and toxicity results, AkroBak™ has proven performance in the following tests:
• Chair Castor
• Vetterman Drum Test
• Velcro Roller
• Electrostatic Propensity
• Hydrolytic Stability

Additionally, there is no concern regarding wet cleaning carpet with AkroBak™. The AkroBak™ carpets when wet will not shrink, smell, or mildew.
